Highway Clogged with Traffic

Jasper, Alberta - July 23, 2024 - Cars clogged the highway early Tuesday as people evacuated the town of Jasper and surrounding area due to out-of-control wildfires. The emergency evacuation alert was issued Monday by authorities in the province of Alberta, affecting approximately 4,700 residents and visitors to Jasper National Park.

As of Tuesday morning, the blaze was spreading rapidly and had reached a point approximately 12 kilometers south of the townsite. The Jasper National Park confirmed multiple wildfires burning within the park, which is situated about 350 kilometers west of Edmonton.

In addition to the Jasper evacuation, the wildfires throughout Alberta have forced the displacement of 7,500 people. The Municipality of Jasper and Jasper National Park have issued a Wildfire Alert, urging residents and visitors to stay informed and follow evacuation instructions.
