D-backs: 8, Giants: 7 - Abandon All Hope Ye Who Faces Justin Martinez

D-backs Outslug Giants 8-7 In Series Finale

PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks snapped a four-game losing streak and took the rubber match of their three-game series against the San Francisco Giants with an 8-7 victory on Sunday afternoon at Chase Field.

Despite squandering a 7-2 lead, the D-backs' bullpen held on for dear life in the ninth inning to secure the victory and avoid a sweep.

Trailing 2-1 in the third inning, Christian Walker led off with a double and scored on a single by Carson Kelly. Alek Thomas and Jake McCarthy followed with singles to load the bases. Sergio Alcantara then drew a bases-loaded walk to give the D-backs a 3-2 lead.

Justin Martinez Dominates

Justin Martinez entered the game in the ninth inning with a 7-5 lead. He struck out Brandon Crawford and forced Luis Gonzalez to ground out. Mike Yastrzemski singled to bring the tying run to the plate, but Martinez got Thairo Estrada to ground out to end the game.

The D-backs' bullpen has been a bright spot for the team all season, and Martinez has been one of their most reliable relievers. He has a 2.70 ERA in 13 appearances this season.

With the win, the D-backs improved to 42-43 on the season and avoided falling below .500. They will begin a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night at Chase Field.
